Andhra University Celebrated its 91st Foundation Day at YVS Murthy auditorium on 26th April, 2016. Honourable VC, Registrar, Principals and EC members were on stage.

Students from Vempati China Satyam Dance Academy performed Tillana and marked the start of the programme.

foundation day

Prof Koneru Rama Krishna Rao, former Vice Chancellor, delivered a thought provoking message. The following are the excerpts from his message:

Every position, dean, director, Principals, Registrar, VC should be made accountable.. Every teacher must be made accountable. He said only 1/3 rd of teacher’s time is devoted to teaching, all the remaining time focus should be made on research. He said, research doesn’t mean publishing over night in paid journals or publishing in self printed journals. It should be meaningful and useful while bringing reputation to the University.

He also emphasized on the need for reservation with financial support for the benefit of the weaker sections. But he opined that class of academic unequals is posing a severe problem to the academic and research quality . Every one who leaves the campus should be academically equal. And the only way is to take up remedial classes and give them every support to excel. And tutorials will be required and there is a need for mentor for every student. A mentor should take up 10-15 students and keep watching his progress in all perspectives.

Government funding to these remedial classes must be made. Every average student should become brighter. Already bright student should be given a proper direction. He said he was more happy with AU than when he worked for universities in Tennessee, North Carolina.

More over he expressed the opinion that there is little autonomy for the universities during recruitments which is having an adverse impact on the quality. While welcoming the statements made by the honourable CM that he would not compromise on quality while appointing the heads of the institutions, he said if that is done, no soon the universities will be heading in the right direction.

He said he eagerly wants to see the changes in the university by 100 th foundation day. He would come walking on stage to see AU regain its past glory and positioned in top 50 in the world.

Retired employees who completed 80 years were felicitated.

AU High School gets Internet

I am very happy and proud to say, we could provide high speed Internet to Andhra University High school today. Last month, during the AP Fibre Grid Launch, we were inspired with the online class room concept. I had decided then, that we would give the AU School  kids the same Internet facility that AU students were having before the start of the academic year. And we could do it in one month.

The school correspondent, Prof Prasad Rao, Retd Professor of AU who is voluntarily looking after the school activities chaired the session. He spoke about the companies that supported the construction of the seminar hall under CSR.

Prof V. Uma Maheswara Rao, Registrar, Andhra University was the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the Mobile Lab facility donated by Mr Bala Bhaskar. Mobile Lab has both physics and Lab experiment kits in a compact enclosure and is worth Rs 80,000/-

Later I got the privilege to launch the Internet facility. The facility was extended to office of the school in addition to the computer Lab.

This would help our school to attend online program of Grameena Vidya program launched by AP Govt. It was using offline facility as of now.

Ms Pratyusha , last year passed out X class student who got 10/10 was given scholarship.

Master Shanmitra who passed out inter this year and was a student of this school till X was mentioned specially for obtaining 952 out of 1000 in the intermediate exams.

The students who won caroms National Championship were also specially mentioned.

I came out of the hall with satisfaction and a sense of pride for conceiving this idea and could realize it 🙂
